The Dominican Republic (DR) is blessed with breathtaking countryside, over 800 miles of pristine white-sand beaches and is also home to some of the world’s most dramatic and spectacular golf courses. Designed by legends such as Pete Dye, P.B. Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Gary Player, Tom Fazio and Nick Faldo, the DR attracts golf champions, golf enthusiasts and those who enjoy the golf lifestyle.

“The DR is an important destination for golf lovers and those who love the luxury golfer’s lifestyle. Our island paradise features world-class golf courses set amid stunning sea sides, beaches and mountains in an accessible destination with eight international airports. World-class hotels, championship golf courses and upscale hotels with lavish pampering make the DR one of the hottest spots to tee-off in the Caribbean,” said Magaly Toribio, Vice Minister of International Promotion for the Dominican Republic.

Since the first designer golf course opened in the DR, Teeth of the Dog, at the world-popular Casa de Campo resort, the DR’s golf offerings have drawn visitors from around the globe. Recently named the “Golf Destination of the Year for the Caribbean and Latin America” by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) and with 23 courses, the DR also boasts several new golf courses in development.

Not only has the DR been notably recognized by the IAGTO for its oceanfront fairways lined with coconut palms, but has been deemed by top-tier travel and golf publications as a preeminent destination for golf. Recent honors include:

* Travel & Leisure Golf recognized the DR as “The Player’s Paradise,” honoring the Faldo Legacy Course at Roco Kí as one of the top 10 best new golf courses in the world in 2008.
* Golfweek’s Best New Courses 2008 ranked Punta Espada Golf Course number one in the November 2008 issue.
* Golf magazine ranked Casa de Campo “The Best Golf” in the Caribbean in the April 2008 issue.
* Celebrated Living included DR’s East Coat golf courses, La Cana and Teeth of the Dog, among its “Top 20 International Golf Courses” in 2008.
